Together with friends and family, we met and prayed for the start of our two week journey.
The first leg of our trip to Thailand was delayed so we arrived at the gate with only 20 minutes until our second leg was to depart. Would we make it? Clifton and Sandy Low quickly disembarked and raced to the next gate. The rest of the team followed suit, running through the airport only to get slowed down at security. But God is good!!! The plane waited for all the passengers that had to transfer, so we safely got onto our flight. We arrived at 11:30pm in Bangkok, spent the night at a nearby hotel, and were back at the airport by 6:30am the next day (Tuesday).
When we reached Khaodee, we enjoyed the delicious lunch they had prepared for us. Then Manee, one of the college students, took us on a tour around the area.
The kids came back from school around 4pm and we were greeted by many of them, some new and some old. The kids started on chores right away. Our team began to build relationships with the students by helping with chores, playing ping pong, and playing high jump. It was a true blessing that the children were so open to playing with us, many whom have never met us before.
Dinner time rolled around, and the team split up to sit at different tables with the kids. After dinner came homework time. Some team members tried to help, but we got the kids in trouble because we were talking too much and too loud! Sorry kids, we'll be better tomorrow.
There was then a time for some evening worship that was led by one of the older children. They sang songs of praise and prayed for one another. It was truly a joyful noise!
We then got to do some evening games with the children. For the first game, kids stuck stickers on each other when they found something in common. The second game involved racing to line up in a certain order. Lastly, we shared the book "You are Special" by Max Lucado. We wanted each kid to know that they are special, created by God, and that they each are an important part of the family of God.
Coming back a second time, I did not know what to expect. Would things be the same? Different? Well, our mission is the same: to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and to encourage the kids in their faith. What was different were the many new faces that I saw and met. Some kids had moved up to college. Others had moved away to start work. Others chose not to stay at Khaodee. It reminded me that our choice to follow Jesus is a daily one, wherever we may be. I pray that those who are no longer at Khaodee still love and follow Jesus. I pray for all the new children at Khaodee (I met one who has only been here 2 months) to get to know Jesus. I pray that we as a team continue to focus on following Jesus and glorifying God in all we do.
Although the past two days were long and tiring, it was completely worth it! Excited for what God has in store for the coming days. Please continue to join us in prayer for those we meet that they would respond to the love of Christ in meaningful ways. Pray for our team that God would grant us strength, unity, and boldness. Romans 1:16a. "I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of salvation for all who believes."
